De carrière van de Franse barokviolist Timothé Langlois de Swarte gaat zogezegd als een speer. Hij maakte een paar bejubelde cd’s en hij was onlangs met Holland Baroque op tournee door Nederland. Op zijn nieuwste cd breekt hij samen met klavecinist Justin Taylor een lans voor onbekende Franse vioolmuziek. De Italiaanse vioolrevolutie van de zeventiende eeuw ging aan Frankrijk voorbij, daar gaf men de voorkeur aan de gamba, maar in de tweede helft van de achttiende eeuw gaf ook Frankrijk zich gewonnen voor de viool. Op deze cd horen we werk van de broers Louis en François Francoeur, musici aan het hof van Lodewijk XV. Deze componisten schreven vioolsonates die eigenlijk Franse danssuites zijn. Welke broer nu precies welk stuk componeerde is niet altijd duidelijk. Langlois de Swarte en Taylor houden er in ieder geval een warm pleidooi voor. De violist heeft een krachtige toon en de klavecinist speelt alsof hij zijn partijen ter plekke zit te improviseren. En misschien is dat ook wel zo, deze klavecinist staat voor niets! Dit zijn helemaal geen begeleidingen maar gelijkwaardige partijen. Deze twee jonge musici zijn volkomen aan elkaar gewaagd. Een heel bijzondere cd met ten onrechte vergeten vioolrepertoire.
