Op de golven van laatmiddeleeuwse mystiek en devotie
Het zogeheten Old Hall Manuscript is een van de belangrijkste bronnen voor de religieuze muziekpraktijk in het Engeland van de late veertiende en vroege vijftiende eeuw. Het vertelt in gregoriaanse passages, in misdelen en in werken van componisten als John Dunstable en Leonel Power hoe het er muzikaal aan toeging op het St.-Edmunds College, een Rooms-Katholieke school in Old Hall Green in Hertsfordshire. Het onvolprezen Gothic Voices laat op Echoes of an Old Hall horen hoe de Engelse stijl van invloed was op het werk van Franco-Vlaamse componisten als Guillaume Dufay en Gilles Binchois. Maar het fijnzinnige vocale ensemble neemt u met hypnotiserende zang vooral mee naar de oude Engelse muziekpraktijk, dompelt u onder in de typisch Engelse zangstijlen van dat moment en laat u meedromen op de golven van de laatmiddeleeuwse mystiek en devotie.
